I'll never know whether drawing tiny lines or my interest in the dark fantasy genre came first, but they've merged to help me compose the specifically horrible. Rendering any world takes time; the more specific you can be with your research, the more unique an image you can create.
I began drawing in a Russian art school in Queens, which gave me the discipline to succeed at Laguardia High School for the Performing Arts, and eventually earn a scholarship to the School of Visual Arts, where I could pursue a major in comics. Between these periods, I've done graphic design work for The Drilling Company by creating promotional art for various projects, including their collaboration with the Bryant Park Shakespeare. I have even sold a painting to the legendary Billie Jean King.
I am most passionate about comics and their potential to reach a mainstream audience outside the context of superheroes. I will never stop drawing muscular guys punching monsters (or each other). But bridging these pulpy elements with a tone palatable to mature readers looking for a more mindful experience is paramount to honestly representing my artistic skill and the flexibility of the medium I chose.
